Join the Green Dream Team
We are looking for the following positions:
1. Community and Web Outreach (2 people)
2. Fundraiser / Sponsorship (2 person team)
3. Assistant Project Coordinator (1 person)
4. Researcher of Green Space Hot Spots (Community Mapping Project) (1 person)
5. Outreach and Communications for Community Mapping Project (1 person)
(At the moment all the positions are unpaid internship/volunteer positions. Depending on funding for the project an honorarium might become available in the future)
All of the above positions will function as a team, we will have informal and fun meetings to exchange ideas once a month. Everyone will have access to a wiki and a forum where they can ask questions and can share their progress. The tasks below are a guideline, but each team member is encouraged to be creative and take initiative. Most of the work will be done independently, but keeping up communication with the team and the Assistant Project Coordinator is encouraged.

General Qualifications that apply to all the positions:
6-10 hrs a week
Starting in September (with the exception of the Assistant Project Coordinator and Shooting Assistants) with at least 3 month commitment up to 6 month commitment.
These are non-paid positions at the moment, (depending on funding for the project the positions might offer a honorarium)
- enthusiasm and commitment
- creativity and initiative
- ability to work independently but communicate and coordinate the activities with a team
- good writing skills, being able to have fun and write short and engaging comments
- knowledge of the web, blogging, social media sites
- interest in grassroots community and non-profit organizations
- interest in community building through media practice
- good social skills
- interest in green and sustainability issues
- willingness to think outside the box
- being able to find a balance between being creative and pragmatic
- good time management skills
- preference for people who speak English and French (and deeply wishing one person who can also speak Bulgarian)
A short orientation, will help the team with:
- understanding of the principles and philosophy of Green Dream
- seeing part of the rough cut for the film and understanding of the approach and story
- understanding of the community mapping project
- meeting the team
- sharing ideas, your strengths and your interests
-creating out a timeline that works with everyone
- sharing what you would like to learn or how you could benefit from being part of this project
1. Community and Web Outreach Person (ideally 2 people will work as a team)
Time commitment: 6-8 hrs a week
Position for 3 moths – 6 months
Your role:
You will be managing the conversation/dialog regarding Green Dream in the Web community. You will be the community bridge on the web grassroots level. The emphasis is on engaging the community, finding blogs and sites with substance and bridging the conversation in those sites with the Green Dream project. (for example making comments that are poignant or posting links of Green Dream initiative and content that relates to what is being discussed on the blog. This is a two way conversation and you will be able to post some of the content you find interesteing and relevant to the Green Dream Blog/website.
1st person – Web and Blog
Responsibilities
- Getting to know the Green Dream website, the Green Dream Blog and Green Dream Project. Understanding the vision behind it and its philosophy and application.
- spread the word about Green Dream through the web
- engaging the web community in the Green Dream conversation
- announcing initiatives like the 90 Day Love Challenge and telling people that they can join the challenge
- Surfing the web and looking for websites and blogs that are related to Green Dream
- Posting comments on blogs, and links to relevant content
- Cross posting interesting and relevant content and links to the Green Dream Website
- Create a database of the sites
- Pointing bloggers/organizations to different Green Dream blog posts of Green Dream that might be of interest to them/ their organization/ their website
- Responding to people’s comments and forwarding any requests to Maia Iotzova
- Contributing and discussing with the team, communicating with the coordinator
The perfect person:
This position is perfect for a person who likes surfing the net, and enjoys finding up to date and interesting perspectives by reading blogs and social media sites.
As an intern/volunteer this position will give you the opportunity to polish off your viral marketing skills and to draw knowledge and inspiration from the Green Dream team. It will help you research and understand how to create meaningful conversations on blogs and social networks, find really interesting content and people. You will have the chance to create lasting connections that extend beyond the web by outreaching to a community that is interested in similar issues as you. You will exchange ideas, be inspired and inspire others.
2nd person -Organizations and Mailing lists
Time commitment: 6-8 hrs a week
Position for 3 moths – 6 months
Responsibilities
- finding organizations and mailing lists that could be interested in Green Dream
- making contact with them
- pointing them to the website, blog, teaser
- sending them 150 word updates of the progress of the project
- sending short press releases/updates of any events that are happening
- contributing and discussing with the Green Dream team, communicating with the coordinator
- communicating with the community outreach person who is in charge of blogs and websites
- creating a list of all the organizations
The perfect person:
This position is perfect for a person who likes surfing the net, and enjoys creating community connections and grassroots outreach.
As an intern/volunteer this position will give you the opportunity to connect with many interesting organizations and people and inspiring green/art projects that are happening all over the world. It will help you research and understand how to create meaningful conversations with organizations and communities. You will have the chance to create lasting connections that extend beyond the web by outreaching to a community that is interested in similar issues as you. You will be able to polish off your viral marketing skills and to draw knowledge and inspiration from the Green Dream team. You will exchange ideas, be inspired and inspire others.
2. Fundraiser/ Sponsorship (ideally 2 people will work as a team)
Time commitment: 8-10 hrs a week
Position for 3 moths – 6 months
- brainstorm about creative ways for fundraising
- brainstorm about possible sponsors with the team and help locate alternative sources of funding for Green Dream(the documentary) such as foundations, credit unions, community organizations, individuals etc.
- create a database/spreadsheet document with the sponsors/community organizations/funders
- write brief funding requests/letters
- approach possible sponsors for Green Dream(the film)
- follow up with sponsors
- help devise a funding strategy for the Community Mapping Project (currently in development)
- contributing and discussing with the Green Dream team, communicating with the coordinator
The perfect person:
You are business/funding savvy and passionate about social entrepreneurship. As an intern volunteer this position will give you the opportunity to improve on your ability to present in a concise and engaging way the benefits of a project, while still addressing the needs of the funders/ sponsors. You will be able to draw knowledge and inspiration from the Green Dream team. You will exchange ideas, be inspired and inspire others.
3. Assistant Project Coordinator
Time commitment: 8-10 hrs a week
Position for 4 moths – 6 months
-help to coordinate volunteers/interns, create a workflow (using google documents or a wiki) and a where the volunteers can access all the information and the tasks to date and a forum where they can ask questions and discuss their progress
- help with the scheduling of shooting days, interviews, equipment rental
- help with French translation
- help with the overview of the project and whatever needs to be done
- contributing and discussing with the Green Dream team, communicating with all the interns/volunteers and the coordinator
- help with website upkeep and contribute to the team’s creative dialog and direction
The perfect person:
This is a perfect position for a person who loves coordinating and working with people. As an intern/volunteer this position will give you an introduction of the overall flow of a film and media project. You will have the chance to see the project grow and to be inspired and inspire others.
4. Researcher for Green Space Hot Spots (Community Mapping Project, which is currently in a development stage)
Time commitment: 10 hrs a week
Position for 3 moths – 6 months
Perfect for a students or community organizations involved or interested in green space work.
What is a hot spot:
A hot spot is a green space that has gone through a dramatic shift from natural site to an industry site and vise versa and also a contested green space(threatened by development in the past,present or future)
- find out all the spots within Canada where green spaces have been threatened by development in the past/present/future
- find green spaces that have gone through a dramatic change or spaces that have been remediate
- make a database with the name of the space, the geographic location and describing a brief (100 word) history that each green space has gone through
- find community/neighborhood organizations that have been involved with the fight and protection of each green space
- (the Community Mapping Outreach Person, will work with you and will make contact with those organizations)
- the list of the hot spots will be posted to the Green Dream Website and made available to the public
The perfect person:
This is a perfect position for a person who loves researching history of green spaces and is interested in green space issues, sustainable growth and urban planning and development. It could be done by a student who can count this as part of their research for an accredited course or academic paper. It could also be done by a person who is working with a community organization that can benefit from such research. As an intern you will have the chance to learn a lot about green space history and issues and share the concise list and description you create with the public, this will be an invaluable resource. You will be able to draw knowledge and inspiration from the Green Dream team. You will exchange ideas, be inspired and inspire others.
5. Community Mapping Project Outreach Person
Time commitment: 6-8 hrs a week
Position for 3 moths – 6 months
- Work with the researcher in locating community organizations who are involved with the struggles to protect the hot spots that are on the researcher’s list
- Contact those organizations and tell them about Green Dream and the Mapping Project in development
- Look for organizations that might be interested in becoming partners in the Mapping Project
- Look for organizations who are doing work related to preserving green spaces and compile a contact list, tell them about the project establish contact with them
- the list of the community organizations will be posted on the Green Dream Website and be available to the public
The perfect person:
This is a perfect position for a person who loves learning about the community’s relationship to green spaces and is interested in green space issues, sustainable growth and urban planning and development. It could be done by a student who can count this as part of their research for an accredited course or academic paper. It could also be done by a person who is working with a community organization that can benefit from such research. As an intern you will have the chance to learn a lot about community struggles for green space and share the concise list and description you create with the public, this will be an invaluable resource. You will be able to draw knowledge and inspiration from the Green Dream team. You will exchange ideas, be inspired and inspire others.
6. Shooting Assistant (1-2 people for specific days)
- help with the shooting days, interviews, signing waivers, sound, and general assistance
- own bike is required and the willingness to bike to location
- there might be some driving (2-3 days)
- help with French translation and ask questions in French from the interview participants
